Melanie is a nationally recognized kidney stone expert and dietitian based in Chicago, IL. She started her career in nephrology at the University of Chicago with some of the top kidney stone doctors. As her experience and knowledge grew, she noticed significant gaps in the information patients were receiving, both online and through providers. She founded The Kidney Dietitian blog in 2020 as a way to educate both patients and healthcare professionals about kidney stone prevention. The Kidney Dietitian now touches around 10,000 people every day.
Melanie has published her research investigating the role of plant based diets for kidney disease and for the prevention of kidney stones. She has spoken at many local, state and national organization meetings about kidney nutrition. She is the current Chair-Elect of the Renal Practice Group, President of the Illinois Council on Renal Nutrition, and is a member of the planning committee for the National Kidney Foundation’s annual meeting.
