Join Kathy Warwick, RDN, CDCES as she discusses the trifecta of metabolic risks in type 2 diabetes.
There are 37 million adults living with type 2 diabetes in the U.S. Half of those living with type 2 are unaware of the increased risk for cardiovascular disease related to their diabetes. Another 96 million have prediabetes and 80% are unaware of this condition which also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Another 37 million adults are living with chronic kidney disease and 90% are unaware of this diagnosis or that type 2 diabetes is linked to kidney disease. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease affects 30-40% of all U.S. adults and 70% of those with type 2 diabetes.
Each of these comorbidities of diabetes are interrelated and drive one another. All of these conditions can be silent and progressive if no action is taken. Appropriate screening and timely initiation of appropriate MNT and lifestyle interventions is crucial for preventing serious complications and maintaining overall health. RDNs are uniquely qualified to address this trifecta of metabolic risks in type 2 diabetes. Join Kathy Warwick, RDN, CDCES to learn how you can help identify those who are at risk and collaborate with other providers to formulate a heart, liver and kidney healthy style of living.
