The required reading for this course is a comprehensive resource that can help clinicians learn and apply strategies related to prevention and management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its complications and comorbidities. The required reading is consistent with the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI) Clinical Practice Guideline for Nutrition in CKD: 2020 Update, and other pertinent evidence based clinical practice guidelines. The content of the required reading includes but is not limited to comprehensive patient assessment, complications of CKD (malnutrition, cardiovascular disease, mineral and bone disorders, anemia), clinical recommendation including treatment targets and nutrient prescriptions, and special considerations for care of the elderly and other specific populations.

This course is suitable for nutrition professionals who are new to the area of chronic kidney disease as well as those who need a refresher that combines well-researched, practical information. The course uses a case-study based exam to assess the reader’s knowledge and understanding of the content and their ability to apply it to clinical practice.
