The required reading for this course presents practical guidance for nutrition practitioners working with patients with a variety of kidney disorders. The reading includes the most recent nutrition guidelines released by the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI) and addresses topics that reflect the scope of practice and standard of nutrition care for patients with kidney disease in all settings. Part 1 of the course covers Sections 1–3 of the required reading and provides a foundational overview of kidney disease, including nutrition assessment, nutrition management strategies, and considerations for special populations and comorbid conditions.
Part 2 of the course draws from Sections 4–5 of the required reading. It builds on Part 1’s foundational knowledge with a deeper focus on nutrition management of kidney disease, as well as nutrition support, and the role of medications and dietary supplements in patient care.
A case-study based CPE examination helps the reader apply information in the course to their work setting and patient population. This course is appropriate for registered dietitian nutritionists.
