Course Description
The required reading for this course includes two articles from professional scientific journals. The first article discusses early risk identification, sex-specific cardiovascular risk factors, health disparities, and gender bias; and the second article reviews the American Heart Association’s latest dietary guidance for improving cardiovascular health and reducing chronic disease risk.
This course will help registered dietitian nutritionists and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered, identify sex-specific cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in women, incorporate lifespan-based cardiovascular risk assessment into nutrition care, and develop targeted nutrition interventions to support CVD prevention and management in female patients. In addition, participants will learn about evidence-based dietary patterns, food-based recommendations, and practical counseling strategies that support heart health across the lifespan, explore considerations for health equity, cultural food preferences, and translating nutrition science into patient-centered care.
The case-study based continuing professional education exam reviews key aspects of the text and assists the learner with practical application of the content.
