The required reading for Fuel for Sport: A Professional Guide – Part 1 is a reference for clinicians that work with athletes in all sports, at all ages, and at all levels of competition. The required reading provides evidence-based information and nutrition strategies that the sports dietitian and other professionals can use to help clients maximize athletic performance.
The required reading is divided into four sections (Sports Nutrition Basics, Sports Nutrition Assessment and Energy Balance, Principles in Practice, and Sports-Specific Nutrition Guidelines) and has a total of 23 chapters, comprehensively covering all aspects of sports nutrition. Each chapter has a list of “key takeaways” that summarizes the chapter. The book closes with an “at a glance” section that summarizes nutrition guidelines for athletes competing in 18 sports.
Part 1 of this course covers chapters 1-11 including exercise physiology, macronutrients, micronutrients, fluid, electrolytes and exercise, supplements and sports foods, as well as nutrition assessment, anthropometrics and body composition, energy balance, and weight management. This continuing professional education (CPE) program requires the learner to apply the knowledge learned in a case-study based exam.
