The required reading for Fuel for Sport: A Professional Guide – Part 2 is a reference for clinicians that work with athletes in all sports, at all ages, and at all levels of competition. The required reading provides evidence-based information and nutrition strategies that the sports dietitian and other professionals can use to help clients maximize athletic performance.

The required reading is divided into four sections (Sports Nutrition Basics, Sports Nutrition Assessment and Energy Balance, Principles in Practice, and Sports-Specific Nutrition Guidelines) and has a total of 23 chapters, comprehensively covering all aspects of sports nutrition. Each chapter has a list of “key takeaways” that summarizes the chapter. The book closes with an “at a glance” section that summarizes nutrition guidelines for athletes competing in 18 different sports.

Part 2 of this course covers chapters 2, 12-14, 16, 18-20, and 22 including topics such as carbohydrate and exercise, child, adolescent, college, and master athletes, vegetarian athletes, eating disorders, and diabetes: nutrition for short-duration, very high and high intensity sports, and nutrition for endurance and ultra-endurance sports. (Information on Part 1 of this course can be found here.)

This continuing professional education (CPE) program requires the learner to apply the knowledge learned in a case-study based exam. This course is appropriate for registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered (NDTRs) and other professionals that work with the sports and wellness population.
