This presentation by Dr. Melissa Planells explores how AI is transforming dietetic practice, offering a framework for leveraging AI tools in assessment and education while navigating critical ethical, safety, and personalization limitations.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming dietetic practice, offering both exciting opportunities and significant challenges. This presentation explores current AI applications in nutrition assessment, meal planning, and patient education while critically examining their limitations and risks.
Participants will learn to identify AI tools that can enhance workflow efficiency and support clinical decision-making, while understanding when these technologies fall short—including cases of contraindicated food recommendations and inadequate personalization for complex medical conditions. Join Dr. Melissa Planells, DCN, MS, RDN, CD, LDN as she addresses essential ethical and professional considerations, including algorithmic bias, data privacy, quality of care for vulnerable populations, and the critical role of human oversight in ensuring patient safety.
Attendees will develop a practical framework for responsible AI integration, learning when to leverage these tools and when professional judgment must take precedence. Whether you’re new to AI or already exploring these technologies, you’ll gain the critical thinking skills needed to navigate the future of dietetics in an increasingly digital healthcare landscape.
