Diabetes is a complex chronic illness that is often associated with other cardiometabolic conditions. People living with diabetes require ongoing education and support in order to thrive. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Diabetes Statistics Report estimates 136 million people in the U.S. are living with diabetes or prediabetes.
Lifestyle modification is the cornerstone of diabetes prevention and care. Dietitians are uniquely qualified members of the healthcare team who can guide people with prediabetes or diabetes. As nutrition professionals, we must continually update our knowledge of current guidelines to provide the highest level of evidence-based nutrition care.
