This course requires reading of a pocket guide on pediatric nutrition for children with a variety of special health care needs (CSHCN). Published in 2021, the evidence-based book has the most recent information available on nutrition care for CSHCN. Conditions covered include but are not limited to autism spectrum disorder, cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, congenital heart disease, and cerebral palsy. The course covers nutrition assessment, feeding and eating, community services and programs, and transition of care for CSHCN. The case-study based CPE self-study program provides additional opportunities for the reader to help integrate key concepts into their care settings.
This CPE is appropriate for RDNs and NDTRs who work with pediatric populations, as well as educators who teach pediatric nutrition to students and interns.
The course includes case study-based questions to assess knowledge and understanding of content and requires the learner to apply the information as if implementing it in practice.
