The required reading for this course is a comprehensive review of the assessment and management of patients with gastrointestinal (GI) conditions. Topics covered in the required reading include but are not limited to nutrition assessment, GI tests and procedures, specific GI disorders (including inflammatory bowel disease, short bowel syndrome, IBS, celiac, liver disease, pancreatic disease, and oncology), the intestinal microbiome, surgical and therapeutic interventions for GI disorders, and medications and nutraceuticals used to manage GI disease.

A case-study based CPE examination helps the reader apply information in the course to their work setting and patient population. This course is appropriate for registered dietitian nutritionists and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered.
