This case-based self-study course will help nutrition professionals strengthen their understanding of current evidence-based recommendations for the evaluation and management of dyslipidemia and apply this knowledge to nutrition care.
The required reading features the 2026 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Management of Dyslipidemia, which includes new and revised recommendations for cardiovascular risk assessment, lipid and lipoprotein testing, lifestyle management, and lipid-lowering therapy. Key updates include recommendations for the measurement of apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], use of the PREVENT-ASCVD equations, consideration of risk-enhancing factors, and updated LDL-C and non-HDL-C treatment goals.
Nutrition professionals play an important role in the interdisciplinary management of dyslipidemia. The guideline emphasizes lifestyle management as a foundation of ASCVD risk reduction and provides evidence-based recommendations for dietary patterns, weight management, physical activity, and other lifestyle interventions. It also includes new recommendations for referral to an RDN for individuals with elevated triglycerides.
By completing this course, RDNs and NDTRs can enhance their knowledge of current dyslipidemia recommendations and strengthen their contributions to interdisciplinary care, patient education, and nutrition intervention.
This course is appropriate for registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered (NDTRs) working in long-term care, acute care, outpatient and ambulatory care, community-based settings, private practice, and other settings where cardiovascular health and dyslipidemia are addressed.
Course includes electronic document, electronic test and 1 certificate with passing grade.
