The required reading for this course presents a framework for addressing health disparities that can be applied to personal as well as systemic and institutional bias. The required reading can be used as an introduction to health disparities, a text to assist in teaching about health disparities, or a tool to help organizations and institutions achieve health equity. The required reading is written from the perspective of a Black physician who is a professor in the Community Medicine and Family Medicine department at Mercer University School of Medicine and reflects his unique, evidence-based perspective on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The book includes (but is not limited to) discussions of racism and sexism in health care, LGBTQ+ health disparities, and rural health disparities.

This course is appropriate for registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered (NDTRs). The case-study based CPE exam helps the reader to apply the information in the book to their personal goals as well as interactions with patients and colleagues.
