Hypoglycemia Care Across the Lifespan Part 1: Pediatrics to Adulthood

Amy Hess-Fischl, MS, RDN, LDN, BC-ADM, CDCES

Amy Hess-Fischl is an advanced practice dietitian, diabetes care and education specialist, and certified pump trainer for over 25 years. Her work at the University of Chicago is within the departments of pediatric and adult endocrinology working directly with people with diabetes of all ages who use insulin pumps and CGMs. For the past 18 years, she has been the Quality Coordinator for their ADA recognized program. Amy served as co-chair of 2022 National Standards revision, published in February 2022. She was chair of the National ADA Education Recognition Program committee from 2019-2023. She received the 2022 American Diabetes Association Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award. She was also just named as Editor of the ADCES in Practice journal. She is an international speaker in the areas of diabetes-related nutrition, education program recognition, technology, diabetes prevention, and more. The topic of hypoglycemia is a daily conversation with all people with diabetes in her practice. She has authored numerous publications in the area of diabetes care and education. Her professional activities also include writing continuing education test items for the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists and various practice groups of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In her spare time, she enjoys scuba diving with sharks.
