Interpret and integrate evidenced-based research and literature in decision making when treating patients with a variety of medical conditions with this evidence-based self-study course!

This continuing professional education self-study course includes required reading of The Essential Pocket Guide for Clinical Nutrition, Third Edition, which provides evidence-based information on nutrition assessment, nutrition support, and nutrition considerations for specific diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and pulmonary disease.

The required reading follows a consistent chapter format that includes sections on disease process, treatment and nutritional intervention, and patient education, making it easy to find the relevant information. Most chapters include a summary of the nutrition care process (assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation) that is appropriate for each condition. A comprehensive appendix provides information on laboratory assessment, food-drug interactions, vitamins and minerals, and dietary supplement facts. The book is a useful reference for registered dietitian nutritionists, certified diabetes educators, nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered, and educators.

The course includes a case-study based continuing professional education exam which focuses on specific aspects of the required reading and helps the learner apply the information as if implementing it into practice.

Purchasing Options: Course includes hard copy book, course document, electronic test, and 1 certificate with passing grade. If you already have the book, use the “additional certificate” option. NOTE: This is a 20 CPE course. There is a 10 CPE course available (see below).

This is an excellent CPE program! It is beneficial for entry level and experienced dietitians looking to broaden practice. The required reading is accurate and up to date. The case studies that are used are thought provoking and reinforce clinical application.

Guidelines for Clinical Nutrition Care: Essential Information for Nutrition Professionals Self-Study Course
This course is a very detailed, comprehensive review of key components of clinical nutrition. I think it can serve as a great refresher for the seasoned practitioner, while also presenting a wide variety of topics for the newly registered dietitian. I liked the case study approach and how it included questions from all sections of the required textbook, really ensuring that participants will carefully study the entire resource.
