Learn how the body uses the macronutrients, energy burning capabilities of exercise, and the relationship of both to overall health with this case-based self study course!

This continuing professional education self-study course includes required reading that presents a historical overview as well as both current and forward-thinking dialogue on how the body takes in and uses energy. It is rooted in research, including anthropological studies, by the author. The book discusses how the body uses the macronutrients (fat, protein, and carbohydrate), energy-burning capabilities of exercise, and the relationship of both to overall health. The author’s premise is that humans burn the same number of calories per day no matter how active they are. The book emphasizes the critical need for exercise to support health and longevity and maintain weight loss, but not to facilitate weight loss. This may be considered controversial by some readers, but the author’s research presents a compelling case supporting his perspective. Health professional may benefit from reading this book to be informed of promising approaches and strategies for supporting patients and clients in understanding energy metabolism. A case-study based CPE provides information that helps the reader understand the information presented and integrate it into their current practice setting.

Course includes hard copy book and 1 certificate.

As RDNs and clinicians, we are subject to our own biases and understanding of how things "work" and like others, we are susceptible to fads, falsehoods and misinformation. The required reading and self study course is a powerful tool against misinformation as it takes a scientific and anthropological look at nutrition, exercise and metabolism. This helps dispel myths about diet and exercise that we encounter every single day. As clinicians, we pride ourselves on being the experts, and this self study course and publication will help us live up to that label!
