While serving in the ADA House of Delegates Elise served on the Nutrition Care Process Committee. Her experience with this committee and using the NCP/SL in her practice will help you reduce some of the anxiety that comes with the change. In the 90 minute Powerpoint presentation & audio recording, Elise will describe how the NCP/SL and the documentation process for CMS complement each other. She will help you with ideas on how to adapt your documentation style to the process and will direct you to resources that can help you perfect your skills.
Objectives:
Participants will,
1. Identify how the Nutrition Care Process and International Dietetics and Nutrition Terminology (IDNT) complement the documentation required by CMS.
2. Understand the difference between the dietitian’s role in identifying nutrition risk factors(screening) and in the completion of the Nutrition Care Process using the Standardized Language
3. Be familiar with an example of documentation for a resident with swallowing difficulty that can be adapted to other systems.
4. Identify resources and activities available to dietitians that enhance the implementation of the NCP/SL

About the Presenter:
Elise Smith has extensive experience in both clinical and food service management. For over 20 years, she been a consultant dietitian for long-term care facilities in the Southeast. She is Director of Consulting Services for Nutrition Systems, Inc., supervising over 15 registered dietitians who provide consulting services in 85 healthcare facilities. Mrs. Smith has held numerous board positions in state and national dietetic associations, including Chair of The Nutrition Care Process/Standardized Language Committee for the American Dietetic Association and serving 6 years as Mississippi’s Affiliate Delegate in the HOD. Elise has made numerous presentations to help promote the NCP/SL.
