If you are hearing similar statements from residents and/or their families, you are not alone. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) indicates that at least 50% of American adults take supplements on a regular basis. This includes vitamins and minerals (primarily) along with herbal and other supplements. Included in this packet: article, questions and answer key, and certificate.
Participants will:
1. Understand concerns for the few standards in place for manufacturing herbal and supplemental preparations.
2. Identify major concerns for older adults taking herbs and supplements
3. Identify the American Heart Association recommendations
4. Review the effects of various herbs and supplements on the older adult
