This program will explain the way reimbursement for care is determined by the federal government. Learners will gain comprehensive knowledge of the Resident Assessment Instrument, the Minimum Data Set, and Resident Assessment Protocols for resident problem identification in long term care facilities and their nutrition related components.
Participants will:
1. Describe at least two factors responsible for major changes in LTC facility operations with implementation of The Balanced Budget Act of 1997
2. List at least three ways the Minimum Data Set (MDS) information is used
3. Specify the three basic parts of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI)
4. Describe the purpose of the Resident Assessment Instrument
5. Identify areas on the MDS related to nutrition
6. Specify the impact to a healthcare facility when a MDS is not submitted accurately or according to the specified dates and time frames
