Potential Sponsors

Tips on How to Pursue Sponsorship for Becky Dorner, RD, LD

1. Companies that have sponsored me in the past include: Novartis Nutrition, Abbott Laboratories and Ross Laboratories, US Foodservice, Sysco, Hormel Health Labs/Diamond Crystal and many other smaller, regional companies. I am on the speaker’s bureaus for Novartis Nutrition, Abbott International, Ross Laboratories, Sysco Foods, and UniPro.

2. The best thing to do is to start with the sales representatives that you know from one of the above companies or other companies that are strong in your area. If any of your members buy from these companies, they probably have good contacts.

3. You might consider including a topic that the vendor would appreciate. My niche area is long term care, and you can visit my website at www.BeckyDorner.com to see all of the topics that I present on. A few

examples of topics to fit the vendor's interest:

   * A medical nutrition company might be interested in a topic such as unintentional weight loss or
      nutrition and pressure ulcers.

   * A company that carries pureed products or thickeed liquids might be interested in a presentation on
      dysphagia.

4. Contact the sales representative to discuss the sponsored event. Offer to email information and refer them to www.BeckyDorner.com for more information, bio and curriculum vitae.

    * Provide information on the event (number of attendees, professionals in attendance, information on
      your organization)

    * Send information on the speech (description, objectives, outline, length, etc.)
    * List benefits of sponsorship

    * List quotes form previous satisfied sponsors

    * List the ways that the company will be mentioned (brochure, during speech, after speech, before, etc.)

5. Of course, vendors appreciate the marketing opportunity that sponsorship presents.

    * Company name on the brochure that will go to potential participants

* Recognition in the program book at the meeting

    * A sign at the door of the presentation room

* Recognition in the newsletter and/or website if available
    * Most vendors realize that they will be thanked from the podium at the beginning and/or end of the
presentation, but that the speaker will not discuss their product during the actual CEU presentation
